Fans of Heroes of the Storm have started a petition asking Blizzard to bring the game to Steam, hoping that the move could help revitalize the title on a new platform. This shift would likely require minimal resources from Blizzard while offering the game a chance to tap into a fresh player base.
Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA that brings together characters from across its franchises, was initially released on June 2, 2015. While it garnered early success, support for the game dwindled over time, and it entered maintenance mode in July 2022. However, after a period of silence, the game began receiving quarterly balance updates starting in mid-2023.
Now, fans are urging Blizzard to give Heroes of the Storm another shot at a resurgence. A petition started by HotS fan Emil Jantzen on Change.org calls for the game to be added to Steam, believing it could attract new players. While the petition has gathered around 215 signatures in its first week, it continues to gain traction.

A Steam release for Heroes of the Storm could be a viable move. Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 made successful transitions to the platform, with Diablo 4 even briefly becoming the second-most-played game on the Steam Deck. Given Steam's massive user base and accessibility, a similar release for Heroes of the Storm could see the game benefit from a renewed player influx.
However, bringing Heroes of the Storm to Steam comes with potential risks. Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 faced review bombing upon their Steam releases, with Overwatch 2 still holding one of the lowest ratings on the platform. A Steam launch for Heroes of the Storm could face similar challenges, though the game’s established fanbase might counteract these risks.
With Microsoft’s acquisition of Blizzard, a revival of Heroes of the Storm seems increasingly plausible. Fans have suggested adding characters from recent Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch games, as well as iconic figures from other Microsoft-owned franchises, such as Halo's Master Chief or Gears of War's Marcus Fenix. While a major revival remains uncertain, the Heroes of the Storm team, affectionately known as "The Janitor," continues to provide some support and updates for the game, keeping hope alive among its fanbase.
