Call of Duty: Warzone Adjusts Player Counts for Area 99, Spa

Following a recent update, Call of Duty: Warzone has reduced the player counts for its Area 99 map, sparking a divided response from the community. While not launching alongside Black Ops 6, the latest season of Warzone has seen a surge in popularity, bringing in new content such as operators, map adjustments, and the return of classic areas like Urzikstan and Rebirth Island.

Area 99, a Treyarch-designed map set in the Nevada desert, made its debut in Season 1, offering players "intense, tactical combat" due to its smaller size and numerous points of interest. However, player feedback on the map has been mixed, and recent adjustments to player counts have only intensified the debate.

In the November 25 update, developers lowered the maximum player counts for various game modes on Area 99 based on internal data. The changes include a reduction from 44 to 40 players for Quads and Duos, 42 players for Trios, and 40 players for Solos, down from the previous 45.

The changes have generated mixed reactions. Some players are hopeful that fewer players will create more space on the map, leading to less frequent early deaths and a more strategic experience. Others, however, are disappointed with the adjustments, with many players indicating they may return to the recently revived Rebirth Island for a more enjoyable experience.

Beyond the player count changes, the November update also addressed several bugs, including the frustrating gas mask animation issue, where the mask would unequip without player input. Additionally, the Akimbo attachment option for Black Ops 6 weapons has been disabled, and audio adjustments have been made to reduce the volume of player cloth and gear sounds on Carry Forward operators from Modern Warfare 2 and 3.
