Why isn't there a FM public room ?

Postby Invaincu » August 22nd, 2019, 2:01 pm

I was in a french community before named HBC, and we had rooms for our community, HBC rooms, with a password to play only with guys of the community, with no noobs and randoms.

Now that VPS permits to everyone to play with a good ping, don't you think it's a good idea to have some official FM rooms with passwords rather having to play on luck or sala's rooms ?

It's a good idea - I tried this in the past, but I gave up when too many randoms came. There was a lot of arguing over positions and rage-quitting during a game. (as you'd expect, I guess)

I think what could work is, rather than having a public room, keep it private to TS users only - perhaps advertised in the "Friendly Match Gather 4on4" channel 24/7 - so players who tend to join the "Players available for FS" can have a quick game if one is in progress, or just use it as a host if a team needs it.

Players would have to join with their nickname and positions though, example "Gary GK/DM", so it's clear.

I do remember that this was a big thing in the early days of FM, where a public room would be opened with a password. It worked very well, and created some good memories.

I think it started to die out when some of the more active players stopped playing in the pubs, but I guess this could be tried again if there's real interest this time. It should work out quite well.
