THE HISTORY OF NWA

Image

NWA were born more than 365 days ago, when that strange thing called Haxball was only a "sport" played by posh people from private schools. It was in the far 2011 after Melonito, when the Earth was rounded for the most of the humanity. Now we know our Earth is definitely flat, only the crazy people talk about 3D.

In those times the United Kingdom was still creating their main forum, which now we call it as Feed Me Forum, FM for the most, the main haxballer organization nowadays, which runs the best British league at the moment. NWA took part from the beginning. NWA were there because an advanced personality for his times, the English gentleman McSmiley, registered NWA in FM as founder member with six other squads. The first FM league of the history was running, with only seven teams.

Image
McSmiley, our creator in Earth

The fixtures draw determined NWA weren't going to play in the first week, due to the odd number of teams, and they had to wait to the second week, doing their debut against Soccerettes, currently in Division 2. NWA won their first game 4-3 away from home, and the enthusiastic chronicles of those times still remember that historical first victory. That team was made up by McSmiley as Captain, with Chef, Rachel and Thor91. NWA finished that first league in the 3rd position with 20 points, after Circle's Boys and ARRIBA, the winner.

Image
NWA's first match of their history

For the season 2, Mc Smiley let Chef, Rachel and Thor91 leave the squad looking for other experiences, and signed up Mata and Cookies, the NWA goalkeeper. This last one became a NWA legend, the most ancient orangito supporters still remember his saves... I think I'm going to cry. For sure nobody will ever wear the shirt number "Co". The first great international player for the United Kingdom developed the most of his career with the melonitos, that's a pride for us... a legend like Gordon Banks in other sport.

Image
Cookies, when he couldn't join our stadium

In those times NWA still had their first crest, with big letters in Victorian style, very typical in the old times. But the things weren't working so good, NWA started the second season with a lot of doubts, and they needed to urgently reinforce their short team. Only three players in 3v3 was a big risk, and a team like NWA couldn't play with fire. The British market was closed, there wasn't enough good young players in the big island... Maybe NWA had to look for another places, the old and hostile continent...

Image
NWA first crest, seasons 1&2

Somebody told to McSmiley to look for their 4th player in Spain. Why Spain? They have underdeveloped connections, ban all foreigners who try to play in their rooms, and don't say "Image" neither "gg" after a mistake or a game. Maybe some Portuguese agents fooled our Captain about the following chosen one, Lekumberri. "He's Iniesta" they said. And McSmiley believed them...

Finally Lek was more similar to Michel Salgado, a rude legkicker like the major part of the British players in the old times. When you determined how good was a player looking at his teeth, like the horses. Now he isn't much better playing as goalkeeper, being our special FM Pepe Reina, but we like him despite all. Also he was he first Spanish to play in the United Kingdom, he discovered "the new world", but now unhappily they are a plague like in the real life.

Image
Lekumberri, the failed Iniesta

But NWA weren't complete, they needed another player with more skills, a proper AM... The captain couldn't have chosen another better player, Fabregas, with a lot of future in front. The Captain and players who recommended him weren't wrong, he showed his class and he finished the season being one of the biggest sensations. ARRIBA won the season again, NWA ended in a melancholic 4th position of six teams with 12 points, far to the top teams, and losing in semifinals in Cup against MasterChefs. Not only that, the future wasn't still guaranteed. Some players didn't know what to do for the next season, even the Captain had doubts... the biggest teams are lost sometimes.

Image
Fabregas moving the ball

The old Captain had to say goodbye, years don't pass in vain. Lekumberri received the baton and tried to modernize the old NWA structures. The real Messiah came to us and our name took meaning, Cookies was the chosen one in Earth and gave us his words: National Watermelon Association. It was the definitive conversion, the Spanish landing was coming. Players, pets and of course deities came from the Southern Europe looking for a new life after the crisis of faith. Melonito came to Earth to save the Watermelons, being the sole reason why our life has meaning. Rvilla and Kalajan1 became new NWA players, and maybe they were the best couple the following season. That season NWA prayed a lot and we were about to do something enormous...

Image

NWA fighted till the end for the title against ARRIBA and Deadly Monkees, finishing in 3rd position, and winning a place in Champions League. Despite this, and after a bad performance in the cup, a lot of supporters still think NWA were the moral league winner. Maybe they played the best haxball of the season 3, those passes between Rvilla, Kala and Fabregas... now the new generations don't believe us, but one day NWA fought for titles.... Talking about titles, before the starting of the 3rd season NWA won the only cup that have so far won, the Ajhax Cup, in a tough match against the final league winner, Deadly Monkees.

Image
The Ajhax Cup, only one NWA title at the moment

Those unforgettable years... when we even had a reserve team: NWA Toro Rosso, a place where young talents could test their skills, with our Wengers scouts paying a lot of attention to them... oh and their skills, of course... their skills. Toro Rosso, with Torito as leader, only played 5 matches in the Reserve league, but it was enough to give to FM two current captains: JDS in Ajhax, and Frank in the new Parrots International, being the most successful academy after the years.

In those good times NWA took part in the Champions League, playing two previous rounds before. The first round was played against Salo Team from Ukraine, winning them 5-1 after a tough match in the beginning. But the NWA players showed their temperament and skills and didn't let the Cossacks trouble them. The second round took place against Triple Kill of Italy, using a not very romantic but very effective "six people on TS" tactic, destroying them with a defwin. NWA were already one of the 32 best teams of Europe. Things got worse in the group stage, being knocked out after the two first games. But NWA made history. Dad, why do we support NWA? With things like this...

Image
A NWA goal in the Champions League

The 4th season was going to start, and NWA resigned Kalajan1, with Simbinho, the first and the only one African player on FM currently. After a promising 7-1 victory against Caths, things weren't looking so good.... The FM League opened their doors to the German invasion and the amateur and romantic British spirit was over. No more teams with soul. In fact NWA are the only team with an anthem. You can enjoy it here, made by one of the biggest NWA supporters, OPC. When you hear the stadium full of supporters sing it... more than 10 people! That's incredible... I can't explain the feeling... it gives you goosebumps...

NWA had to addapt to the new times and did it with blood, toil, tears and sweat. For first time in their history the Melonitos were in risk of relegation. Happily they solved that delicate situation and finished the season in 6th position with 24 points and no draws, very far to ARRIBA, TIS and NL, the winner. In the Cup NWA failed again in quarter finals, but the real fight was another one and we put all our best efforts there. We have the strange honour to be always knocked out by the final cup winner. MasterChefs, Aquopolis and GI Joehans, respectively.

Image
Kalajan, with Melonito (Oh God, forgive me), Lekumberri and Cookies

Maybe other teams have won more titles, but who will remember them? Some have disappeared already, surely nobody will pay attention to them and they will be only a statistic. That ephemeral glory. Like eat a Whopper in a McDonalds, just fast food. Yeah a Whopper in a McDonals, Melonito and Chuck Norris can do it.

NWA do more things for this championship, despite the fact that we have not won any official title since our creation, and we hope to win a title one day, but never giving up of doing it our way. Of course we aren't stupid, we always want good players, but all of them have to be people of Melonito. And we are very proud to be the 2nd best British team of the history, with 80 points in 54 games. Yeah the statistics... that stuff you can always adapt to your needs. Things like this are the reason as to why NWA as one of the two teams that have always been in the main division.

NWA, the 2nd best British team of the history

Currently NWA are preparing the 5th season, with <º)))<, Weiser, Cataluniya and Stu85 as new players, keeping Lekumberri, Fabregas, Kalajan1, Simbinho, Javiiyu and Jorgele, doing a great family. Our home games will be played at Wankfield, as usual, which has a capacity of 12 supporters. 12 seats is the perfect number for a team like NWA. 10 is for average teams, and 14 is for the big teams that fight for the titles. The TV producers find it very tight in the stadium when showing our games live on TV. Nevertheless we are proud of our stadium, we need to feel our supporters near us.

Image

And that's all folks! Hope you have enjoyed the history of NWA, maybe we don't win titles, but we will win the Watermelon's heaven. That's the most important for us. We will our special traditions in Division 1. Knock-knock-knockin' on Watermelon's door... Bob was right. We are proud to be children of Melonito.

Melonito bless you. Take care.

Fantastic thread, Lekumberri. If I may say so then your stadium indeed has a wonderful name.
