HTML5 new format for FM

Postby Herna » April 22nd, 2018, 8:52 pm

Hello to all FM-players,
after the poll showed a quite obvious 50/50 distribution, it was really hard to decide for the admins which format to choose for the next season.

The result shows that some people prefer Flash, others prefer HTML5 and for both there are players who cant really play on one or the other, so they isn't really an advantage for either of them from the average players point of view. Also from the admins some prefer one mode or the other, but we tried to find the objectively best solution.

The only technical thing that is bad on HTML5 right now is that with high ping the game can be really annoying to play, while on Flash it still works fine mostly. This gets equalled out by the fact that the pings on HTML5 are better and there is generally less lag.

Most other communities still play on Flash and it might be annoying for some players to play on the different modes, but there has to be the point sooner or later where the community has to make the change. Also the majority of the public rooms changed to HTML5 already, which means new players who come from there would have to adapt to an old format, which isn't really optimal.

While Flash player will be stopped being supported in some years, the league still could use it comfortably for many years and isn't forced to change at all and we don't think it would have been a problem. Even for us it is a 50/50 decision, but we chose the way of going the path to the future now.

For those who have problems on HTML: We all had problems in Flash at times also and know its often a lot of suffering going through finding the optimal settings for how to play the game. But don't give up and I'm sure most of you will find something nice for you, browsers that are really bad for Flash might suddenly be perfect for HTML. I'm sure everyone can get used to it and learn to love, or at least accept it.

If the latest chrome build (or this one http://browser.taokaizen.com/ with built in html5 codecs) doesnt run html5 then something is really fishy. Do you have service pack 3 and the latest updates to XP installed? Do you have .net framework installed?
