If it's playoffs to decide the champions then I'd seriously reconsider..

Couple of problems straight away:

- Team who would never win the league in a straight season (for example - DEJA finishing 4th in season 5), they end up 4th, then get a lucky play-off run (can happen in haxball, slovenia in CC final lolwut?) and end up champions - that's hardly justice.
- Team secures top 4, can't get 1st or 2nd, plays a team who needs to win to stay up at another team's expense, the top 4 team could just throw the match essentially.
- Point above but instead of helping a team stay up, helping another team get top 4.

The whole play-off thing to decide the champions is bullshit entirely, and rugby league is a prime example. Last 2 seasons, Leeds Rhinos have ended up 6th and won the playoffs and thus are "champions". Same with championship, Featherstone Rovers winning the league 3 years running, but only being "champions" once due to silly playoffs.

They are separate things, essentially. The title winner is the title winner, the playoff winner is the playoff winner.

is reading such a difficult task?

How is that any different to the current system? A team could have already finished 2nd and throw a match.

Because in the current system finishing 2nd doesn't mean you can be champions, in a playoff system you could throw it because you're 2nd confirmed and aren't going anywhere, and can still be champions.

There's more chance of it in playoff system because without playoffs you would still want to finish as close to 1st as possible (like this season with Starlights and SPARTA, we were never gonna come back from 8 point deficit but we still made sure we got as close as possible).

Another question, is there going to be a fun cup? Ghost mentioned one somewhere and nothing else was said.

It's a fun game, and jonny's point still stands, if a team is secured a certain spot who says they wont throw the game, that applies to both playoff system and the other system

Playoffs are more exciting

It is very unlikely the playoff games will be one off matches, more likely 2 leg or best-of-3 matches, which reduces the chance of a 'deja' winning the playoffs from 4th place

So who will be crowned the champion of division 1 in FM? The playoff winners or the league winners?

Allow ghost, he gets a bit confused sometimes (old age etc.)

For next season, the winner of the playoffs will be crowned champions of division 1. Obviously we're always looking for ways to improve the league and as it's been mentioned a few times that the end of a season can sometimes feel a bit stale, we have decided to trial the playoffs system this season. Anyone around from season 4 will remember that dramatic final day and personally I feel if we could have that every season FM would be better off.

Remember that this is on trial for this season. If it doesn't work, then we'll go back to the old system. Nothing lost.

why not some kind of alternative way ?

like the 1st will be champion without any play off games
and then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th can compete for some cl spots by playing play offs.

would be more fair imo, and then u still have a bit of exitment at the end of the season.

+ i think u should let the teams that are a big part of the community ( stable in the league for a long time )
should have a bit of an input before deciding anything.

In my opinion the playoff modes are not fair. If a team put so much effort into the season and up on top (or any other position), they earned it.
Same for Relegation/Promotion Playoffs, for example NWA they handled to reach place 3 and then fucked up the promotion in a single match.
And i can't see more excitment in playoffs than in league mode. A neck and neck race, between two or more teams, for the championship/CL spot/promotion spot/... could be way more thrilling.

But we don't have 100% chance of that happening?

I'm guessing that 1st place wil have an automatic place in the final and 2nd-5th play off or whatnot? (cba reading whole thread and can't remember the whole debate so ignore this if this is/is not happening)

Personally I disagree with a playoff system to decide the winner of the league and I think that huub's suggestion is better as it's more practical and still promises entertainment for the end of league showdown :clown:. Every div1 team that isn't in a relegation place when season ends play off for the Champions League; or maybe even a mini league like they do in the SPL where everyone plays each other once over say a week or two in a mini marathon. Points halved and such. Could be fun.
