International Haxball League

Postby Girgensons » April 6th, 2012, 5:17 pm

The Russians (or Ukrainians or whatever) are organizing a European Haxball League, which is a sort of a cross between a regular championship and the Champions League.

It's a regular championship in the sense that the teams are divided into conferences/divisions and each team has to play loads of games against each other (at least 18 matches + play-offs).

It's similar to the CL in the sense that it's international and only the best teams of each country qualify, which means that, considering the scope of this thing (10-15+ countries, 30 teams), this might turn out to be the most epic hax tournament EVAR.

The teams are going to be seeded based on geography (Spanish teams in the same group with other Southern European clubs, Russian teams with Eastern European ones and so on), so ping shouldn't be a major problem.

IHL is going to start after a week or two and it's going to run through April/May and also June (if you qualify for the play-offs), so this is probably also a nice way of continuing competitive haxing after the end of S3.

It's just a preliminary list that doesn't mean anything.

Once someone from the UK (or Luxembourg or Iceland or Vatican) is going to apply, a flag will be added.

Oh, and the format is 4on4 obv. Most likely big easy with 7 min halves.

UPDATE:
UK+Ireland+Benelux has 2 slots in IHL.

It would actually make the most sense if the FM admins decided on how to organize the qualification.

The IHL admins recommended that the 2 leading teams in the league should automatically qualify, but I don't know if that's the wisest thing, considering we still play 3on3 in the league.

Seeing as we only have 2 slots open the logical choices would be the League winner and the Cup winner with the League runner up coming in if the cup winner happens to also be the league winner. This way we have our theoretical 'best 3v3' and 'best 4v4' teams representing us.

The only other way of doing it is assigning two captains and putting together two all-star teams of 10 so 20 players would be eligible.

Girgensons has said that he doesn't think you can do the random teams bit and also it starts before the season ends, so League and Cup winners wont be do-able.
